Heatmaps

heatmaps

Heatmaps answer a question that raw numbers can't: are users actually clicking what you expect them to click? A page with great traffic numbers might still fail if visitors are clicking the wrong elements — or nothing at all.
BuddyStat's heatmap dashboard captures every click with x/y coordinates, CSS selector, and element metadata. The color-coded overlay (blue → cyan → green → yellow → red) renders on top of your actual page screenshot, so you see clicks in the visual context of your real page design.
Track scroll depth at 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, and 100% milestones. See which elements get the most clicks in a ranked table. Toggle between heatmap overlay, scroll depth distribution, and top elements views. All the insights of Hotjar Heatmaps ($32-80/mo), included in your BuddyStat subscription.

Capabilities

What you can do

Click heatmap overlay

A color-coded heatmap (blue → cyan → green → yellow → red) shows exactly where users click on each page. Hotspots reveal what draws the most attention.

Scroll depth tracking

See how far down each page users scroll. Track milestones at 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, and 100% to identify where users lose interest.

Top clicked elements

A ranked table shows the most clicked elements on each page — button text, CSS selector, click count, and unique users. Know exactly which elements get the most interaction.

Page screenshot capture

BuddyStat automatically captures screenshots of your pages (via Puppeteer) and renders the heatmap overlay on top. See clicks in the visual context of your actual page design.

Stat cards & analytics

Total clicks, unique sessions, unique users, average viewport dimensions, and median click coordinates — all the stats you need to understand interaction patterns.

Page selector & filtering

Auto-populated page selector shows all pages with heatmap data. Switch between pages instantly and compare interaction patterns across your site.

Getting Started

How it works

  1. 01

    Enable heatmaps

Toggle heatmaps on in your Site Settings. The tracking script automatically starts capturing click coordinates, CSS selectors, and scroll depth data — no code changes needed.

  2. 02

    Data is collected

Every click is recorded with x/y coordinates, the element's CSS selector (3-level DOM walk), element tag and text, and viewport dimensions. Clicks are throttled to 150ms to prevent data overload.

  3. 03

    Screenshot is captured

The first time you view a page's heatmap, BuddyStat captures a screenshot via Puppeteer. It's cached for 24 hours so subsequent visits are instant.

  4. 04

    View your heatmaps

Open the Heatmaps dashboard, select a page, and see the color-coded overlay. Toggle between click heatmap, scroll depth, and top elements views.
